Glen Cove City Schools

Landing Elementary School

The Landing elementary school was original built in 1932 and later added on to in 1955.  The original building had a slate roof and a pre-cast stone cornice which contained an integral gutter assembly. The 1955 addition had an improperly pitched EPDM roof, which resulted in many ponding areas. BJLJ prepared construction documents for the original building, to remove the slate roof and pre-cast cornice, and install a new composite slate roof, with metal cornice and an integral gutter assembly.  BJLJ also prepared construction documents to remove the EPDM roof and install a new built-up roofing system for the buildingļæ½s addition. BJLJ also prepared construction documents for an emergency sewer line repair which involved replacing 500 feet of pipe.

Bond Referendum

BJLJ was the District Architect of Record for the Glen Cove Schools $3,456,250 Bond Referendum.  BJLJ provided complete architectural and engineering services in-house for roof replacements (multiple buildings), boiler replacements, and ADA toilet upgrades and refurbishements. The bond referendum involved multiple contracts and contractors, all of which were withing budget.

District Wide Fire Suppression Systems and Kitchen Hood Upgrades and Replacements

The fire suppression systems and kitchen hoods were upgraded/replaced at the Glen Cove High School, Glen Cove Middle School, Gribbin Elementary School and Connolly Elementary School. This was a fast paced project, since all buildings were completed over the Summer months, and had to be completed before the start of school.

All projects were completed on time and within budget.
